Notes From the Nurse : Teach children good hygiene for health

VAL COLBURN,R.N. K-6 th Pea Ridge Elementary

My, how time flies when we are all so busy! School is rolling right along and we are getting ready for a fall break very soon. If you haven’t gotten a flu vaccine, now is the time. With leaves falling and the autumn rains, we are getting lots of sneezes and sniffles at school. We do our best to sanitize surfaces, but bacteria are hardy creatures and can live on some surfaces for a week. Viruses are tiny and spread very easily as well. We encourage frequent hand washing and using hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available. It’s that time of year to dig out the coats, mittens and hats again. You may want to check with your student to see if he or she is missing a jacket or two from home. We have accumulated a large quantity in our lost and found again. We have had a coat rack installed by the cafeteria doors in the Upper Elementary building for the found items. Please come by and look for your children’s clothes. Also, please try to put names in their coats and jackets as some children seem to forget - Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Red Ribbon Week at Pea Ridge Elementary

BY DEBBIE RUFF Pea Ridge Elementary K-2 counselor

Students at Pea Ridge Elementary celebrated Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 27-31, with a variety of activities. Each day had a special theme, activities and dress-up days to go with the theme. The themes included a hat day (“Put a Cap on Drugs” ), camo day (“Join the war against drugs” ), crazy hair day (“Use your head — don’t use drugs” ) and school spirit day. In addition to educational activities to teach children healthy habits, students participated in a poster contest and had drawings for prizes. The week was topped off with a drug free pep rally on Friday afternoon. Participating in the pep rally were the Pee Wee cheerleaders, junior high cheerleaders, senior high cheerleaders and Guary and Patty Morgan with their trained police dogs. - Wednesday, November 12, 2008
