Customers at Applebee's Restaurant Saturday, Oct. 11, were served by members of the Pea Ridge High School advanced placement biology, chemistry and art classes during a special pancake breakfast event.
The "All You Can Eat"Pancake Breakfast was a great success, according to Tim Pate, teacher, and students. With the students as servers, the restaurant was packed from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. with customers who paid $ 5 for unlimited pancakes, sausage, bacon and juice.
The students sold tickets for two weeks to raise money for their annual end-of-course field trip. This was the students' first time to use Applebee's as a fundraising opportunity. Tim Pate, biology teacher, and Joe Stewart, art teacher, and the students were very happy with the results and may attempt this fundraiser again in the spring. The students expressed gratitude to everyone who participated.
Pate and his students are trying to raise money for their education-based field trip at the end of the year. Pate first began taking his students on these memorable field trips two years ago.
The first field trip was to the Grand Canyon and the second was to Gulf Shores, Ala. These field trips give these high achieving students an opportunity to put what they've learned all year to use. They have a chance to apply their knowledge to real life situations.
There is no better way to learn than in a real life situation, Pate said. Pate's AP classes have made these trips a tradition for Pea Ridge High School AP biology students. Graduated students have said that this is one trip that they will never forget, and some have even been one of the few selected to take other research trips in college because of their past learning experience.
The AP biology, chemistry and art classes want to say a big "Thank you "to Applebee's for all of their help and for the use of their facility. The pancake breakfast was a huge success thanks to you.
