On Thursday, Oct. 2, visitors to Bunker Hill included Janice Kirk from Oregon, Alice Bacon from Texas and Jonnie Danielson from California. They were in the area to attend the Hodson reunion held on Oct. 4. Their mothers were Hodson sisters - Martha, Gracie and Rhoda. The club ladies also showed them an old friendship quilt top with several of the names they recognized from the past.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, there was a visit from Jo Pearcy of Pineville who came bearing gifts from daughter, Judy Rickett. Judy sent the club quilt tops to finish and a lot of quilting magazines for ideas.

During the show and tell part of our program, we saw a quilt top made from patriotic material, afghan won by one of our members at a recent silent auction, table runner, very, very old quilt blocks, and a completed throw made for a friend in Canada.

Secretary and treasurer reports were read and approved. Flower fund stands at $ 142. 05 with report given by Betty.

In old business, the club discussed the upcoming dinner on the square to be held on Monday, Oct. 27. The menu will be to soup / sandwiches, ham and beans, crackers or cornbread, dessert and tea. Plans were finalized for the Oktoberfest event on the square in Pineville. Contact has been made to complete guttering on our new porch on the community center.

In new business, a price was voted on for the cost of a custom-made quilt. Also sent money to get more donated material from a California textile company. The club voted on the type of quilt that will be made for our 2009 raffle quilt. The members voted to make and quilt an Ohio Star queen-sized quilt for next year.

Plans are to have a community appreciation night at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. Bands are being lined up to give a great night of music and the club will be feeding everyone who wants to eat a great bowl of chili, hot dogs or chili dogs. All will be free to those in attendance. Our group is very grateful to the public for supporting our organization. Without them, our buildings would not survive.

Our program for the day by Debbie was showing us how to make paper from start to finish. It is an interesting process. Her paper was made from shredded newspapers, but any type of paper will work. One can also change the color of the paper by adding food coloring to the water.

No bingo was played this month. We were busy getting things baked and packaged for Oktoberfest. Plus, there was quilting to be done. Next month's meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 13.
