Heritage couldn't make it past Bulldogs

BY HEATH ALLEN Writer nwarktimes com

Arecord-setting night propelled Fayetteville into the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. Fayetteville sophomore quarterback Brandon Allen threw a school-record seven touchdown passes in a 63-34 scorefest at Harmon Field on Friday. Six of Allen’s scoring tosses were in the first half. Allen completed his first 13 passes, 31 of 40 for the game, and accumulated 311 of his 384 passing yards in the first half. Fayetteville earns the sixth seed from the 7A-West Conference and will travel to face Little Rock Catholic — the third seed from the 7A-Central — next Friday in the first round of the Class 7A state playoffs. “I was very happy with how we played at such a fast pace and Brandon Allen broke a school record,” Fayetteville coach Daryl Patton said. “I thought Brandon got into a rhythm and completed a lot of short passes and went long with a lot of success on the vertical stuff. I’m very proud of the way we played and now we’re in the playoffs.” Fayetteville’s Demetrius Dean led the Purple Dogs with 10 cat - Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Rogers' loss to Springdale keeps Mounties out of playoffs

Too many gifts left Springdale with the best present of all — a postseason berth. Four turnovers led to four touchdowns — including two late defensive scores — as the Bulldogs ran away from Rogers for a 49-25 win at Mountie Stadium to grab the 7A-West Conference’s final playoff spot. The Bulldogs — in the postseason for the first time since the school district split three years ago — will take the fifth seed from the West and travel to Bryant next week. Springdale’s senior stars shined during Rogers’ Senior Night. Quarterback Ashton Glaser completed 16 of 25 passes for 249 yards and touchdown throws of 4, 6, 31, 29 and 33. - Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Mounties win CC state championships

BY SAM STEINBERG Sports Writer sams@nwanews.com

The Bentonville Lady Tigers and the Rogers Mounties both performed like rock stars on Saturday. The boys looked the part as both teams took home Class 7A cross country state championships at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs. All but one of the Mountie runners came out with a mohawk. The Mounties had six runners finish in the top 10 to capture their seventh consecutive title. The only Mountie not wearing a mohawk was senior Cameron Efurd, who had a shaved head. Efurd captured the individual title with a time of 15 minutes and 53.19 seconds. His nearest competitor was more than 25 seconds behind. When asked if his shaved head helped him to be more aerodynamic, Efurd joked, “I guess so.” Joining Efurd in scoring for Rogers was Jordan Falls (fourth overall), Martin Resendiz (fifth), Jeremiah Fleeman (sixth), Anthony Melia (eighth) and Daniel Saldana (ninth). Rogers coach Carlton Efurd said he was very pleased with the performance of his mohwak-sporting runners. “It could have been the hair. Who knows?” coach Efurd sai - Wednesday, November 12, 2008
