Pruitt

Fayetteville

Irene Pruitt, 87, of Fayetteville, departed from us Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Washington Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born July 31, 1921, in Harkey's Valley, near New Blaine, to Ella Hanna Brock and Arthur Brock. She grew up working on the family farm with her four sisters, Leola, Lorene, Modene, and Imogene and her brother, Lindell. She graduated from Paris High School.

During World War II she worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., riveting together B-29 bombers. It was there she met Claude Pruitt, a co-worker. Romance blossomed, and they married May 14, 1945.

Following the war, Irene and Claude moved to Harkey's Valley where he farmed and she gave birth to a son, Ronald, and then a daughter, Patricia. In 1947, they moved to Tulsa, Okla. She suffered the tragic loss of her baby daughter soon after. A second son, Leland, was born in 1953, and sadly, a daughter was stillborn in 1966. She worked as an office manager at National Trailer Convoy until her retirement. She was a member of the Dawson Church of God of Prophecy in Tulsa where she served as Sunday School secretary. She loved shopping, embroidering, quilting, flower gardening and decorating.

Her husband, Claude, died in Tulsa in 1990, and her younger son, Leland, died in Tulsa in 2003. The following year, she moved to Fayetteville, where she soon developed a circle of close friends. She is survived by a son, Ron Pruitt of Fayetteville; a daughter-in-law, Ann Pruitt of Fayetteville; a granddaughter, Samantha Pruitt of Wichita, Kan.; a grandson, Patrick Pruitt of Fayetteville; and a great-granddaughter, Sabrina Solley, of Hilton Head, S. C. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home, 1908 S. Memorial Drive, Tulsa, Okla.
