Walker Park plan honored with award

The Arkansas Chapter of the American Planning Association announced Wednesday that the Walker Park Neighborhood Master Plan won the 2008 Achievement in Comprehensive Planning award, which is given to plans that demonstrate “an outstanding feature relative to the integration of development concepts and the intended use of resources.” Kristina Jones, long-range planning technician for the city of Fayetteville, will also receive the 2008 Achievement in Technology award for her work on a Sketch-Up model of South School Avenue as envisioned in the Walker Park Neighborhood Master Plan. The awards will be given Oct. 24 at a luncheon during the Arkansas American Planning Association’s fall conference. The vision document, Illustrative Plan and Sketch-Up model are available at http://cityplan2025.accessfayetteville.org. The guiding principles for the neighborhood are balance of uses and housing, connectivity and walkability, Jefferson Square as neighborhood core and accessible green space. - Sunday, October 5, 2008

Air Museum to host Fall Kite Festival

The Arkansas Air Museum will hold its first Fall Kite Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18. The festival will take place in a 16-acre field across from 2536 N. Locking kid in car Maureen Drennon Garner, 24, was charged Sept. 25 with first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. She is accused on Aug. 22 of leaving her 4-year-old locked in a car for more than one hour during 85-degree weather. Using stolen credit card Rocky Rowell and Kelli Rowell, both 26, were charged Sept. 25 with accomplice to fraudulent use of a credit card. They are accused from June to August of using a stolen credit card. Leaving accident scene Michael Wayne Wilmouth, 27, was charged Sept. 30 with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and possession of marijuana. He is accused on Nov. 12, 2005, of leaving the scene of an accident and having a bag of marijuana in his car. Theft of washer, dryer Alex Lowrey of Fayetteville faces an arrest warrant on charges of theft of property.
