COURTESY Students and faculty at Fayetteville High School’s West Campus created the world’s longest banana split in September 1974 — a whopping 150-foot, 2. 5-inch concoction. Area stores donated ice cream, syrup and ingredients and the split was divided and sold for 50 cents per serving. The banana split event was part of the school’s Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA ) Day celebration.
