Workshop helps parents help their kids go to school

As the 2008-09 school year gets under way, the Jones Center for Families in Springdale will host a three-part workshop for parents of students entitled "Going to School."

Parents can attend sessions from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays or 10 a.m. t o n o o n o n We d n e s - days starting Aug. 26 and 27. The workshops run through Sept. 9 and 10.

T h e w o r k s h o p i s designed teach parents how to help prepare children ages 3 to 8 make the transition from home to pre-school, kindergarten or elementary school.

There is no pre-registration, but parents must attend the first week in order to attend in the following weeks.

The class is one of a series of four classes the Jones Center is offering this semester.

Other classes include "1, 2, 3 Magic," a four-part series on stopping misbehavior, which runs from Sept. 16 to Oct. 8; "Raising a Thinking Child," a four-part series on the art of problem solving and resolving conflicts peacefully, from Oct. 14 to Nov. 19; "Parents on Bo a rd," a t h re e - we e k seminar on building academic success through parental involvement for parents of 4- to 14-yearolds, from Dec. 2 to Dec. 17.
