A Fayetteville man was taken into police custody early Wednesday after allegedly stabbing another man in the stomach.

Leslie Orlando Blackburn, 43, of 234 S. Willow Ave. faces a felony charge for first-degree battery.

While walking to a friend's apartment on Bedford Loop at about 1 a. m., the accuser told police he was approached by Blackburn and another male suspect. One of the suspects allegedly began yelling in the accuser's face and asked him if he "had a death wish. " The accuser told the suspect to calm down, at which point he said Blackburn brandished a knife, held it to the the accuser's throat and again asked," Do you have a death wish ?"The accuser grabbed the knife with his left hand, pulling it away from his throat, and cut his hand in the process. Blackburn then allegedly stabbed the accuser in the stomach with another knife. The accuser ran upstairs, grabbed a towel and applied pressure to the stab wound before dialing 911. He was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center.

Blackburn was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on Wednesday, but a bond amount had not been set. He is expected to make his first appearance in the Washington County Circuit Court on Friday.

Fayetteville Police Sgt. Tim Franklin said police had not identified the other subject involved in the incident.

"Right now we're running a few lineups to see if we can get him identified," he said.

The suspect, known only as "Troy," is described as a black male.
