BASEBALL Northwest Arkansas Bombers tryouts The Northwest Arkansas Bombers, 10- & -Under competitive baseball team, is looking to fill roster positions for fall 2008 through summer 2009 tournament play. Players may not turn 11 prior to May 1, 2009 to be eligible for this team. Coaches are looking for players who love to play, want to play competitively, want to develop baseball skills and have a lot of fun. Must be committed to playing 2-4 tournaments in the fall and 10-12 tournaments in the spring / summer. Some travel required. Competitive baseball experience is preferred. Pitching experience a plus. Team will practice in the Bentonville / Rogers or Springdale area. BOWLING Thursday Morning Mixed Bowling League A mixed bowling league with play dates each Thursday morning is being organized for the 2008-09 season. Bowling takes place at the Rogers Bowling Center at 9: 30 a. m. starting the week of Sept. 7.
Openings are available for men, women or couples. This handicap league is not sanctioned by the ABC and is designed for recreation, sociability and fun for adults over the age of 50. Bowlers of all skill levels are invited to attend.

GOLF Patriot Golf Day in Bella Vista Bella Vista golfers can participate in Patriot Golf Day 2008 from Aug. 29 through Sept. 1. All proceeds from the program will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation, which is designed to provide educational scholarships for the children and spouses of service members who are either killed or disabled while serving in the military. Golfers in Bella Vista, and around the country, will have the opportunity to donate $ 1 or more to the cause. Each Golf Shop in Bella Vista will provide a donation box for golfers to give back to those who have sacrificed everything.
Each 18-hole facility also will offer a closest-tothe-pin contest for $ 2 per person. All proceeds from the contest will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
Bella Vista Village will also sponsor a raffle to win a limited edition TaylorMade Driver, which features the Patriot Golf Day logo. Raffle tickets will be $ 5 each and go on sale Monday, Aug. 18, at the Kingsdale Golf Shop. The winner will be announced Sept. 2.

Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club in Rogers will host its annual Four-Ball Championship on Sept. 13-14.

The Bella Vista Women’s 9-Hole Golf League will hold its Summer’s End Member-Guest Tournament on Monday, Sept. 15, at the Berksdale Golf Course with an 8 a. m. shotgun start.
The cost is $ 30 per player or $ 36 if a half a rental cart is needed. The fee includes green fees, continental breakfast, lunch and prizes.
The format will be a four-lady scramble for nine holes. Everyone is welcome whether league members or not.
The deadline to enter is Monday, Sept. 8.

The Bella Vista Women’s Golf Club will sponsor the 39 th Northwest Arkansas Women’s Golf Association “ Summer’s Flip-Flop into Fall - Part 2 ” on Thursday, Sept. 4, at Kingswood Golf Course.
This event is open only to BVWGC 18-hole members and other Northwest Arkansas Women’s Golf Association (NWAWGA ) members and clubs.
Entry forms will be available beginning Aug. 4 in the Bella Vista pro shops or on the POA web site at bellavistapoa. com. The two-lady scramble can include 72 teams maximum. All women must have a certified GHIN / USGA 18-hole handicap. Flights will be determined after play.
The registration deadline will be Aug. 27 and there are no refunds after that date. Kingswood Golf Course is a spikeless facility and shirts must have sleeves or a collar. Short-shorts are not allowed.
The entry fee is $ 37 per person or $ 74 per team for BVWGC 18-hole members. For non-BVWGC members the entry fee is $ 47 per person or $ 94 per team. The entry fee includes a morning snack at 8 a. m., golf with a 9 a. m. shotgun start, closest to the pin, lunch and awards following play at Riordan Hall.
There is no rain date, but in case play is canceled, lunch will be served at 1: 15 p. m. A rain check will be issued for play and prizes will be drawn.

Bella Vista Village will host a Team Championship two-person shootout Sept. 13-14 on the Bella Vista Country Club Golf Course.
The two-person team event consists of 36 holes of golf during a two-day stretch. The format for the first day (Saturday ) will be nine holes of modified scotch and nine holes of Best Ball (full handicap will be given in the Best Ball Format ) at the BVCC. The format for Sunday will be 18 holes of scrambles at the BVCC. The field is limited to the first 72 teams.
Both team members must be on the Bella Vista Handicap System and Bella Vista Village property owners. Team members may be male / male, male / female or female / female. Men will play the No. 2 tees, men 70 and older will play the No. 3 tees and women will play the No. 4 tees.
Flights will be established based on the team’s total handicap. Members will play in that flight for the tournament. If enough interest is shown, a division will be formed for seniors (both members must be 70 and older ), women (both players must be female ) and mixed teams.
The entry fee for the event is $ 50. With this event being a no-frills event, green fees and carts are not included in the entry fee. One hundred percent of the entry fee will be returned to prizes, including gift certificates for flight prizes, closest-to-the-pin contests and skins game.
The green fee is $ 22 per person with a value card and $ 30 per person without a value card. A cart is $ 24 per player.

The Bella Vista Women’s 18-hole Golf Club is accepting a prorated membership fee for the remainder of the season.
Dues as of July 1 are only $ 25, plus $ 5 for those who have not already paid a handicap fee. Any member who wishes to participate in the hole-in-one award pays an additional $ 10 fee.
Play days for the club are Thursdays. All six 18-hole courses in Bella Vista are played and each week a different game is played. There is opportunity to meet different members each game and chances for all levels of play to win.

The ALS Association of Northwest Arkansas will host its third annual Golf Classic presented by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. benefiting Lou Gehrig’s disease. This year’s four-person scramble will be held at the Bella Vista Country Club on Friday, Oct. 3.
There are 8 a. m. and 1 p. m. flights available at $ 400 per four-person team. Each flight will be limited to 30 teams.

The Arkansas Women’s Golf Association (AWGA ) 2008 Designated Tournament will be held Aug. 23-24 at Bella Vista Country Club.
This is the last Designated Tournament for 2008. It features an 8 a. m. shotgun both days.
The format is a pre-flighted Low Gross / Low Net. Fifty percent of the field will receive a payout.

The third annual Mr. Mulligan’s Golf Scramble, sponsored by the Friends of Highlands, will be held on Sept. 14, starting with a shotgun start at 1: 30 p. m. at the Highlands Golf Course.
This is a four-person scramble. Teams will consist of two males and two females. Couples wanting to play should pick up an entry form at any Bella Vista pro shop or call (479 ) 855-4031.
The cost of this year’s tournament is $ 45 per couple. Flight prizes, closest to pin as well as dinner at the Highlands Clubhouse are included in entry fee. Green Fees and carts are not included.
Flights will be determined after play. The field is limited to the first 36 teams who sign up. Entry deadline is Sept. 10.
Proceeds from past tournaments have allowed the Friends of Highlands to make improvements to the Highlands Golf Course.
