BENTONVILLE — The Northwest Arkansas Hockey Association (NWAHA ) will hold registration for its upcoming season Saturday from 9 a. m. until noon and 3: 30-6: 30 p. m. at The Jones Center in Springdale.

The NWAHA House League is part of USA Hockey and is designed to introduce kids to hockey and offers teams from Mini-Mites (less than 6 years of age ) through Midget (15-18 year olds ). No prior skating experience is required to join.

Each team practices an average of two times per week at the Jones Center. Youth teams (ages 4-14 ) compete against other novice / house teams from Little Rock, Tulsa, Springfield, Wichita and St. Louis. The junior varsity division (high school level ) competes as the only Arkansas-based team in the Kansas City Metropolitan High School Hockey League. Both the youth and junior varsity levels are hoping to expand their teams this year.

NWAHA is the area’s only youth ice hockey program and is enjoying a period of strong growth with the emergence of the University of Arkansas Division III team. The Ice Hogs have completed their three-year probationary period and will play a full schedule this year of Division III hockey. Home games will be played at the Jones Center for Families, providing an opportunity for area youth to prep for hockey at the collegiate level in NWA.

There will also be a mini-camp Saturday at the Jones Center, with instruction from members of the Missouri State University ice hockey team.

Registration fees are $ 200 per skater. Scholarships and rental equipment are available. For team contacts and more information, visit the Web site at www. nwahockey. com.
