Keller leads Mounties to golf win

ALMA — Rogers senior Matt Keller and Fayetteville’s Eli Mattioli shared medalist honors, but the Mounties beat Fayetteville and Van Buren in a three-way match Wednesday. FAYETTEVILLE — Rogers seniors Matt Keller and Hunter Mobley led the Mounties to their fourth victory of the season, this time a three-team match at Fayetteville Country Club on Monday. WHAT ’S IN A NAME

! The home stadiums of several of Rogers’ opponents are named after people important to the program. Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium, Springdale The Bulldogs’ stadium was renamed after the legendary coach in March 2001, just months after he retired.Williams built a 261-133-5 record with four state championships and 11 conference championships in 36 years at Springdale. Harmon Field, Fayetteville Although some call it Bulldog Stadium, the scoreboard reads Harmon Play Field — the name the field has used since the farm land was donated to the Fayetteville school by the Harmon family in 1925. Mayo-Thompson Stadium, Fort Smith Northside The stadium used by Fort Smith High was called Grizzly Stadium until the district split in 1965 and it was renamed after former football coach Ben Mayo and former track coach John Thompson. Northside and Southside shared the stadium until the Rebels opened their own oncampus stadium in 1989.
