The Wesley Series of the First United Methodist Church will present a concert by duo-pianists Utako Tanigawa and David Fountain at 3 p. m. today. The concert will be in the church sanctuary at 20 Boyce Drive.
The concert is free, but a free-will offering will be taken.
Tanigawa and Fountain will collaborate on two works by Mozart: the “ Allegro maestoso ” movement from Piano Concerto No. 21, K. 467 in C major and the “ Allegro con spirito ” from the Sonata in D major, K. 448 for two pianos.
Fountain will perform the “ Variations Serieuses in D minor, Op. 45 ” by Felix Mendelssohn, and Tanigawa will play Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, “ Pathetique. ”
Tanigawa was born in Osaka, Japan, and began playing the piano at the age of 3. She has studied with Fountain, Marilyn Lee and Aldo Mancinelli. She is currently the director of ISD Security Shared Services for the Information Services Division of Wal-Mart.
Fountain is a native of Benton County. He earned a Master of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Tulsa, where he studied with Aldo Mancinelli. He teaches piano at Northwest Arkansas Community college and privately at the Shepherd Music School.
