Recycling capabilities to expand in Rogers
Posted on Wednesday, July 23, 2008
ROGERS - When the city opens its new recycling center, slated for late spring or summer 2009, residents can drop off more materials than had previously been accepted.
Currently, the recycling center accepts only two types of plastic: No. 1 and No. 2. Thanks to $ 456, 132 appropriated by the City Council during Tuesday's meeting, the new center will be equipped with new machinery that can handle not only plastics No. 1-7, but also Styrofoam.
The additional materials will not be accepted until the new facility opens.
The purchase price includes delivery and installation of the machines, according to David Hook, senior designer at Resource Design Inc., the company working on the project for the city. Mark Industries, Hook said, offered the lowest price on the best equipment and will be purchasing the city's old equipment, lowering the price even further. The old equipment, Hook said, needs to be replaced or undergo substantial repairs.
The council also approved the following items • The use of $ 53, 810 to replace the roof of the Rogers Activity Center, prompted by leaking in the kitchen area • A resolution of support for the Rogers Historical Museum that was required as part of the museum's accreditation process • An amendment to the Stormwater-Grading-Erosion and Tree Preservation Ordinance of the Rogers City Code in order to correct an incomplete sentence included in the ordinance; and • An ordinance rezoning the property at 1814 S. 11 th St. from neighborhood residential to residential office. Councilman Buddy Wright abstained because he owns property on that street one block from the lot.
