SUPERMARKET SLEUTH : New microwaveable entrees feed a family; salad gets nutty
Posted on Wednesday, October 1, 2008
Stouffer’s recently debuted its new line of Easy Express multiserve entrees, which are made to microwave in less than 20 minutes in a special Microbake tray. The meals are available in three flavors: Cheesy Garlic Lasagna With Meat & Sauce, made with seasoned beef, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Rigatoni With Chicken, made with white-meat chicken tossed with pasta in a basil-pesto sauce.
Cheese Manicotti, which comes with six manicotti filled with Italian-style cheese in a tomato basil sauce.
Stouffer’s Easy Express meals should be available in most supermarkets, retailing for about $ 7. 40 each. And, according to a public-relations representative I spoke with about the product, the Easy Express meals are produced at the Nestle plant in Jonesboro. MASHED TATERS FROM A BAG Fans of homemade mashed potatoes may be interested in trying Ore-Ida’s new Steam n ’ Mash, a very convenient product that goes from the freezer to the table in less than 15 minutes. They’re packaged in 24-ounce bags and come in four varieties — Russet, Sweet Potato, Garlic and Three Cheese.
Steam n ’ Mash is made with 100 percent real potatoes that are already washed, peeled and chopped. All you have to do is microwave the taters in the bag for about 10 minutes, then mash them in a bowl along with 2 / 3 cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine. It doesn’t get much easier than that. Ore-Ida Steam n ’ Mash should be available in your grocer’s frozen vegetable section, retailing for $ 2. 50 to $ 3 per bag.
NUTTY, FRUITY TOPPINGS The folks at Fisher Nuts have a new line of salad toppings called Culinary Touch. They’re packaged in stand-up, resealable bags and come in Almond Cranberry, Toasted Slivered Almond and Walnut Raisin varieties. Culinary Touch Salad Toppings will probably be located in the produce section of many major supermarkets, where they should sell for about $ 5 for a fiveto six-ounce bag. Product suggestions ? Tips ?
