Companies reporting quarterly earnings Tuesday include:
Cargill Inc., the second-largest privately held U. S. company, a profit of $ 1. 05 billion, up from $ 628 million a year ago. Revenue for the full year rose 36 percent to $ 120. 4 billion. The company does not have public shareholders and releases limited financial information. Medtronic Inc., the world’s largest medical device manufacturer, a profit of $ 747 million, or 66 cents a share, up from $ 675 million, or 59 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 19 percent to $ 3. 71 billion from $ 3. 13 billion a year ago. Shares rose $ 1. 04 to close at $ 54. 48.
Hewlett-Packard Co., the personal computer maker, a profit of $ 2. 03 billion, or 80 cents a share, up from $ 1. 78 billion, or 66 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 10 percent from a year ago to $ 28 billion. Shares fell 91 cents to close at $ 43. 69.
